UPDATE: SR A1A Over Sebastian Inlet Bridge Replacement Project

UPDATE 9/15/26: To enhance safety and long-term resiliency, northbound and southbound traffic on S.R. A1A/Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway will be shifted from south of the Sebastian Inlet Bridge in Indian River County to north of the Sebastian Inlet Bridge in Brevard County beginning at approximately 7 a.m. (subject to change) on Thursday, September 24, 2026, weather permitting, through Late 2028. The traffic shift is necessary to safely and efficiently complete critical construction activities, including bridge and roadway construction, and temporary and permanent wall construction. If weather or unforeseen circumstances occur, the shift will take place by Thursday, Oct. 1. Please see the attached flyer(PDF, 3MB) for more information.

• Starting approximately 1,400 feet south of the Sebastian Inlet State Park entrance in Indian River County, both northbound and southbound traffic on S.R. A1A/Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway will shift onto temporary pavement on the west side of the existing roadway. Traffic will shift back to the existing roadway when crossing over the Sebastian Inlet Bridge. On the north side of the existing bridge, northbound and southbound traffic on S.R. A1A/Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway will shift to temporary pavement west of the existing roadway, then east onto temporary pavement for approximately 900 feet, before shifting west onto the existing roadway.

• Signage will be in place to assist motorists and pedestrians. 

UPDATE 8/17/26: Single-lane closures will continue through August 2026 for roadway construction activities and utility relocation work. Only one lane will be closed at a time, and a flagging operation will be in place to direct motorists. Please allow for extra travel time through the project corridor. 

UPDATE 7/24/26: To enhance safety and long-term resiliency, sections of the Sebastian Inlet State Park North and South Parking Lots will be partially closed around-the-clock through Spring 2032, for bridge construction activities. Signage will be in place to assist motorists and pedestrians.
