The Melbourne Beach Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1953 as the first organized fire department for the south beaches. Today, the volunteer department has two Class A pumpers, one mini pumper, and one support vehicle. A UTV, a 22 ft Pathfinder and a Personal Watercraft makeup the marine rescue assets. Members of the Fire Department come from all walks of life and from all age groups. Training is conducted on a weekly basis in order to maintain a high standard of readiness.
The Department is engaged in Fire Prevention programs at the local schools and day care centers throughout the year and during Fire Prevention Week in October. The Annual Children’s Christmas parade, established in 1966, is one of the community events sponsored by the Department.
The Department is continually recruiting men and women in the community of Melbourne Beach to serve as volunteer firefighters. Anyone interested in volunteering is encouraged to stop by the station or call (321) 724-1736 for more information.
