UPDATE: We have just been informed that SeaWorld is releasing Melby early, around 10:15 this morning. If you have not made your way to Ballard Park, now is the time!
We are pleased to report that Melby - the manatee that was miraculously rescued from a stormwater pipe in February - is scheduled to be released on Tuesday, April 7th at 11:00 AM! His release will take place at Ballard Park: 924 Thomas Barbour Drive, Melbourne. The public is invited to join in this exciting culmination of Melby's recovery.
On March 25, Commissioner Anna Butler, Town Manager A. Marie Smith, and members of the Rotary Club of Melbourne Beach visited Melby at SeaWorld and got a behind-the-scenes look as he was cared for by SeaWorld staff. They reported that Melby is eating well and has gained over 50 pounds since his rescue!
Now, your help is needed - the Rotary Club has set up a Go-Fund-Me to offset the cost of Melby's rehabilitation and release, fund manatee stormwater pipe protection, and provide lagoon stewardship to protect manatee habitats. Please consider making a donation at the link below and share this fundraiser with friends and family!
